Why do we recycle?

We're part of the government's WEEE Directive, so we make sure appliances are disposed of in an environmentally friendly way. We can remove your old appliance when we deliver your new one. The old appliance must be disconnected and outside your property at time of delivery. Unwanted electrical equipment is the UKs fastest growing type of waste.

Many electrical items can be repaired or recycled, saving natural resources and the environment. If you do not recycle, electrical equipment will end up in landfill where hazardous substances will leak out and cause soil and water contamination – harming wildlife and also human health.

Recycling Your Appliance

This service option is for the removal of your old appliance for environmentally friendly recycling. This is chargeable per item. Please make sure that you have your old appliance ready for collection before our delivery team arrive at your property. It must be disconnected from any mains plugs or sockets, defrosted, emptied, removed from its housing and outside your property ready for our driver to collect. Your appliance will be recycled in line with WEEE regulations. Please note that the charge we make for the collection of old appliances is solely to cover the costs of transportation and storage of WEEE products.

Recycling Your Packaging

You have the option to have the packaging for your new appliance removed and sent for environmentally friendly recycling. This is chargeable per item. Our driver will unpack your appliance for you so that you can check it over. We will then take away and recycle the polystyrene and cardboard in line with all current WEEE legislation. Please note that the charge we make for the recycling of packaging is solely to cover the costs of transportation and recycling services through local council business waste management.

Let us do the hard work for you

We are pleased to offer our customers the chance to recycle their old electrical items. This optional collection service is chargeable. You can request that our delivery team collect and recycle your old appliance from your delivery address. There's a charge for this service. Appliance recycling must be arranged at the point of order. Alternatively, you can return your old item to the store and we will recycle the unit free of charge for you.

All goods for collection and recycling must be disconnected from all water, electrical and gas supply in advance of the goods being removed. Integrated appliances must also be removed from their housing. Please ensure your old appliances are emptied and fully defrosted where applicable and placed outside your property before our delivery driver arrives.

We don't offer any disconnection service on gas or mains wired electrical products. All gas disconnections must be performed by a Gas Safe registered engineer. All mains wired electric cookers should only be disconnected by an electrical engineer.

To remind you that old electrical equipment can be recycled, it is now marked with a crossed-out wheeled bin symbol. Please do not throw any electrical equipment (including those marked with the crossed out wheeled bin symbol) in your bin.

What is WEEE?

The Waste Electrical or Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive requires countries to maximise separate collection and environmentally friendly processing of these items. In the UK, distributors (including retailers) must provide a system which allows all customers buying new electrical equipment the opportunity to recycle their old items free of charge. Those establishing their own take-back scheme must as a minimum offer all customers buying new electrical equipment free take back of their old electricals on a like-for-like basis.
